Six years ago, investigator Sid Halley retired for good from a business that had gotten too risky for a man with a family. Now he's been contacted by the head of the racing authority, Sir Richard Stewart, to investigate a series of dodgy races. The day after Sid's refusal, Sir Richard turns up dead in suspicious circumstances, and someone else begins pressuring Sid to whitewash the races. Can he continue to say no, when his family may be threatened?
